How to use Fractio:
Modes: Fractio has two modes which are selected automatically. Basic Mode appears only on the iPhone while in portrait orientation. Enhanced Mode appears on the iPhone while in landscape orientation, and on the iPad. The instructions below refer to Basic Mode unless otherwise noted.
Clearing the calculator: Tap “C/AC” to clear the currently displayed number. Tap “C/AC” a second time to clear all internal values except memory.
Numbers:
Tap digits to enter the whole part of the number, then
Tap “.” and then digits to enter a decimal fraction, -or-
Tap “Frac”, digits, “Frac”, digits to enter a fraction.
Tap “=” repeatedly to toggle between decimal and fractional representation.
In Enhanced Mode it is possible to backspace to correct an erroneous entry.
Arithmetic: Enter the first number, tap the arithmetic operator, then enter the second number (decimals and fractions may be freely mixed). Tap “=” or an arithmetic operator to continue.
Memory: Enter a decimal or fractional number, then tap “Store”. Tap “Recall” at any time instead of tapping digits. In Enhanced Mode there are additional memory functions: "M+" adds the currently displayed value to the value currently in memory, "M-" subtracts the currently displayed value to the value currently in memory, and "MC" clears memory.
In Enhanced Mode, tapping "π" will enter the constant pi.
Square or square root: Enter or calculate a number, then tap x² or √.
In Enhanced Mode, you can perform x-to-the-n or n-root-of-x operations. First enter or calculate a number for x, then tap either xⁿ or n√, then enter n, and then finally tap "=". For example, to take the cube root of 64, tap "6" "4" "n√" "3" "=".
Percentage: Enter or calculate a number, then enter the arithmetic operator followed by the percentage and “%” and then “=” (Example: 44.99 – 15 % =).
Change sign: Enter or calculate a number, then tap “+/-“.
In Enhanced Mode, enter or calculate a number and then tap "1/x" to invert the value.
Rounding: Calculate a number, then tap “Round”. Enter the rounding factor; for example “16” to round to the nearest sixteenth, or “1000” to round to the nearest thousandth. Tap “=”. Arithmetic with rounded numbers may be accomplished by entering and rounding the first value as above, then entering the operation such as "+", then entering and rounding the second value, and then finally tapping "=" a second time.
Units: Enter or calculate a number, then repeatedly tap the desired unit button (for example, “in”) to cycle through “Inches”, “Square Inches”, “Cubic Inches”, and back to no units. Once units are attached to a number, tapping a different unit button will convert the value to the newer units. Examples:
100 inches: “1” “0” “0” “in”.
100 square inches: “1” “0” “0” “in” “in” (if you really wanted 100 square yards, tap “in” “in” to return to “no units”, then “yd” yd”).
Convert 100 square yards to square meters, tap “1” “0” “0” “yd” “yd” “m”.
“ft” includes “Feet & Inches”. For example, tap “6” “ft” “2” “Frac” “5” “Frac” “8”; the display will show “6' 2 5/8” and “Feet & Inches”.
In Enhanced Mode, additional units may be accessed by swiping left or right.
The calculator can perform arithmetic involving units, such multiplying 100 square feet by 24 (2400 square feet), multiplying 100 square feet by 3.5 inches (50400 cubic inches; tap “yd” to convert to cubic yards), and so on.
In Enhanced Mode, trigonometric functions (sine/arcsine, cosine/arccosine, and tangent/arctangent) and common log functions (log/antilog) are available.
Numbers are limited only by the internal representation, however the display of decimal numbers is limited to four digits of scale (i.e. four digits after the decimal point).
Errors:
Math Error: Division by zero and overflow/underflow.
Number Error: Attempting to enter a number that exceeds the calculator’s internal representation.
Dimension Error: Impossible operations with units, e.g. square feet multiplied by square feet.
When an error occurs, tap “C/AC” to continue.
